One woman of many.
I’m Kelsey Brown, a 21-year-old college student studying journalism. I was brought up by a single mother who made me the woman I am today.
When I was sixteen I was in an emotionally and physically abusive relationship, and for a long time was stuck in that pain. My trauma from men extends beyond that though, my father didn’t demonstrate any standard for men in my life and because of that I suffered.I’ve endured a lifetime of exploitation and objectification by men, that women are commonly subjected to.
Like many other women, I persevered. I’ve grown from the pain that used to consume me, though I still feel the hurt ache. I learned to see myself beyond the male gaze and his high standards he himself could never meet, and instead found self love.In sharing my stories I’ve found new perspectives that have allowed me to release shame and reflect on growth.
I created this project because I know how many women are hurt and never heard. I know how common our suffering is because every time I’ve shared my story with a woman, she will tell me her story.I found healing in telling my own stories and feeling supported by my community, and hope this collection can do the same for other women.
As this hopefully grows I’d love to have other women assisting with this collection. I am only one woman and don’t harness all the skills to create this and do it justice.
If you’re interested in having a more hands-on role on the project: assisting with editing, artwork for the collection, creating a logo or helping with website design, feel free to send an email to: firstname.lastname@example.org
I am only one woman, and for this to truly manifest I need all women participating. Be apart of the movement to allow women’s voices to not only be heard and believed, but respected, empathized, and met with love and support.
Peace and love.
